Border Raiders: Fundraising for Local Charities

An important goal of the Border Raiders is to bring together bicyclists and small communities for the benefit of all. By working with local charitable organizations (churches, schools, sports teams, etc.) the Border Raiders bring fundraising opportunities to small, non-profit groups in small towns across the four-state area. Last year, the Border Raiders riders and organizers contributed more than $6,000 to charities, who sell meals and SAG snacks, along the route. Hog Back Ridge Bicycle Touring Company, Inc guarantees a profit to each charitable organization by donating additional funds beyond what the group makes in food sales.

Border Raiders organizers find that working together with local communities promotes a spirit of cooperation and fun. Last year, a church in Cummings, Kansas collected funds through sales, tips, and donations to provide that small-town community with a basketball court for the kids. Along the route, the signatures of Border Raiders riders are used for grant support from those riders who visit local museums. Tickets are provided to each museum and then are turned in each night for a cash drawing sponsored by Hog Back Ridge Bicycle Touring Company, Inc. Each morning, a charitable organization from the community sells a homemade breakfast at the overnight location providing a local fundraiser and fueling riders to start a new day.
